Meet our Mental Health & Wellness Team
Robin Cheslock
Hello everyone,
I would first like to say that I am very honoured to have so many amazingly skilled people to collaborate with every single day. It is the supportive, progressive, inclusive work that we do — the innovative approach and expansive skillsets — that has me energetic and fired up to come to work daily!
As a Registered Social Worker, I have worked in a variety of settings and in a variety of roles that has allowed me to build the knowledge and skillset required to provide comprehensive services based on best-practice and industry standards. I provide services across the entire age spectrum.
My current role affords me the opportunity to provide crisis intervention services, generalized social work, mental health assessment, leadership coaching, organizational process improvement, quality improvement, life coaching, and psychotherapy services to all staff and their respective family members. I also believe adjunct therapies – such as brain entrainment (light & sound therapy), massage therapy, acupuncture, and Reiki – can help support someone in their wellness journey.
I employ a holistic lens – coupled with a wholistic approach – with a combination of various approaches such as Solution Focused Brief Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy; tenets of CBT, DBT, ACT, and Mindfulness are also utilized. A strength-based approach coupled with a motivational interview style helps to support individuals in identifying, clarifying, and achieving their goals.
In my free time, I enjoy being outdoors wandering in the bush with a camera or on the water in a kayak (a new passion so thank you Covid for that!), flea markets, antique markets and jazz festivals are among my varied interests.
It is a distinct pleasure to work with this team and with you, our Canadian Shield Health Care Services family!
Rebecca Graham
My career began as a DSW (Developmental Service Worker) and I have loved working in different settings supporting people with all sorts of needs. Over time I completed my B.A. and worked in schools with at risk students and families in many roles. Eventually, this developed into coping/transition support for people, counselling modalities, therapy practice and consulting for challenging cases in our area and across Ontario. I enjoy having a variety of tools in my ‘toolbox’ and helping people in all sorts of situations. Collaborating and a network of contacts has been my preferred way to work, teamwork is great for progress! My style is a strength based, solution focused, client centered therapy, these plans are a creative way to assess and resolve needs and goals.
Overall, I’m an easy-going person, with a passion for advocacy and empowerment. I have a compassionate personality, a sincere interest and respect for people growing from difficult situations. Being part of growth and development of new skills is a passion of mine, and I feel lucky to have had a career in line with that.
I love nature, my, pets/friends/family, ongoing learning, living with curiosity and setting new goals. My personal commitment to balance and growth inform my work; the lessons I have learned in my own life enrich my help of others. Life is about untying the knots sometimes — connecting with others for support is where this healing begins.
I look forward to serving diverse groups of clients with my new team and welcome the opportunity to work together with you toward our common goals.
Sierra Quinlan
Hello,
My name is Sierra Quinlan and I am a Registered Social Service Worker who has a passion for improving the lives of others. I started my career working with children in a school and recreation setting. I then progressed in my career when I moved to the Developmental Services sector.
I worked with adults living with physical and intellectual disabilities. With this, I developed a passion for mental health and wellness. I employ a strength-based, solution focused approach and meet people where they are at in their life journey.
I have a love for most animals and all things nature related. I am adventurous and love to try new things. I enjoy collecting crystals and learning the history of each one and the meaning that goes along with it. I love essential oils and the benefits that are tied with them.
My favorite aspect of life is the ability to continue to grow as life is a journey.
Mahayla Markell
I’m Ma-hay-la and am very excited to be a part of the Mental Health and Wellness team because of the many diverse folks I get to support and work with. I began my journey similarly to Rebecca; I worked with people who had developmental disabilities while pursuing my Bachelor of Social Work. After receiving my degree and getting accredited with the social work college, I travelled to numerous communities all over Ontario and experienced roles in many different positions such as a mental health counsellor, clinical social worker, family service worker, and concurrent disorders counsellor.
I’ve been a registered social worker for over a few years and am obtaining my Master of Social Work while providing counselling and wellness promotion at Canadian Shield Health Care Services. I practice anti-oppression, anti-racism, trauma informed care, and client centered approaches and have experience in facilitating emotion-focused therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, and brief solution focused therapy within my work. My special interests involve researching and advocating for accessible services and Indigenous solidarity on turtle island.
A few things about me you may be interested in knowing; I’m an avid reader, and baker. Also, I’m picking up running again and may attempt to complete a half-marathon next summer. I enjoy everything outdoors from kayaking, swimming, to snowboarding and playing all kinds of sports. Family is my priority, including my fur-baby Ellie, I also prioritize learning continuously and embracing each day as an opportunity to explore this beautiful blue and green sphere.
